Anastasia Wells

A Franco-British artist whose work bridges dreams and reality, I began my artistic journey at Oxford Brookes University before immersing myself in the world of dramatic arts at Paris's Cours Florent. This theatrical foundation enriched my understanding of human expression and continues to influence the narrative quality of my work.

At Kingston School of Art, I discovered my calling in textile design and printmaking, developing a visual language that speaks through layers of memory and emotion. My work illuminates the profound healing power of human touch – where the simple act of holding hands becomes an anchor in storms of uncertainty, where skin-to-skin contact writes stories of hope and recovery.

Fabric serves as my primary medium, its inherent ability to embrace reflecting the transformative power of human connection. Through intricate screen-printing processes, I layer street names, photographs, and whispered memories into large-scale works that pulse with lived experience. Each piece explores how touch can transcend pain, how presence can heal, and how connection can bridge the deepest of silences.

My current body of work, born from nights spent at hospital bedsides, transforms stark environments into landscapes of love and resilience. These pieces serve as love letters to my sister, where flowing silhouettes and shadowed forms merge with fragments of cherished memories.  In the space between clinical sterility and raw emotion, I capture moments where touch becomes medicine, where hospital corridors became unexpected galleries of human tenderness – the transformative power of a held hand, the silent strength in a loved one's presence, the gentle act of dressing with dignity. Each work serves as a portable embrace, bridging physical distance with artistic touch where an embrace can speak louder than words and presence becomes a form of healing.

Through drawing, life studies, and mixed media exploration, I create dreamscapes that celebrate the profound capacity of human connection to heal, transform, and restore. Inspired by the intimate domestic scenes of the Bloomsbury Group and the emotional depth of post-impressionist work, my practice continues to evolve, always returning to this fundamental truth “in the gentle power of human touch lies our greatest capacity for healing and hope”
